1. We are talking about the same country whose disgust with Leopold III and especially his
commonor wife Lillian forced him to renounce the throne in favour for the emotionally scared Baudoin.
The same country which managed to fool the politicians in thinking that the Flem's finally declared thier republic.
Leopold's abdication had a lot more to do with his own political errors and miscalculations than his second marriage, for example, his meeting with Hitler and his surrender to Germany. His marriage to Lillian happened in 1941, at the beginning of the war and he abdicated in 1950. Leopold had the reputation of a playboy, a superficial and indulgent man, and when he married again while Europe was at war it confirmed this view of him.
2. Albert not acknowledging his lovechild was due to the fact that no one (in the public) knew about it
until Albert came to the throne as Albert II.
By then it was reported that Paola finally got herself together and steped up to the role and responsibilities as
consort to a reigning King - Albert and Paola who were now grandparents and finally more mature compared to when
they were in thier 20s and 30s;
Albert did not want to ruin the happiness and peace with Paola. As reported that Albert and Paola fell back in
love with one another due to Astrid.
Paola could hardly be more embarrassed by Albert's acknowledging his grown daughter than by the tell-all book that disclosed Delphine Boel's existence, or by Boel's statements to the press.
