His scraggly beard's growth cycle is very nicely timed back to the confirmation that Mary's little experiment in showing up the royals with a double pregnancy had achieved success. Fred is signaling to us with that beard. He's flippin' miserable about this twins business and he can probably see ahead to the bad PR move it actually is what with more people in Denmark grumbling about how little he and his wife work in exchange for a pretty sweet life and viturally no accountability.
