Mary Who?

I noticed in a couple of other threads there were posts about Marie and her role (or lack of, according to your POV) so figured we should have a thread to share our thoughts on the new Danish princess.
Personally I think the reason she isn't being seen as much and isn't as active as Mary is deliberate on the part of the DRF. It seems to me that it's a strategy of sorts to keep F&M the media "stars" of the family with Joachim and Marie being given a lower media profile. IMO. Also I think the RF are keen to avoid rumours and press stories of a princess rivalry, like Diana and Fergie, which may be another reason for keeping Marie more low-key.
I'd like to see her taking on more duties and adopting a couple of patronages in the New Year, although I do not think this should be rushed. However, I have a feeling that as she is pregnant her "workload" will be light and for at least another year or so she will be seen carrying out few duties.

I would have to agree with you. She also needs to work on learning Danish fluently.

I think that this time the Queen will make sure Marie learns danish PERFECTLY before getting her out in the public and that's what I think is going on right now - she's learning danish big time. (to avoid her to pull "a mary", basically making a fool out of yourself since she didn't know the langage well enough to be undertaking solo events, at all in the first years) Also, since she's pregnant, I also think she'll have pretty much nothing official in the next few months, but after the birth of the baby (and her maternity leave, which will surely be over the summer) she will begin having a few patronages, events etc. but nothing extraordinary. I don't think Marie and Joachim will have a big schedule at all in the future, when it comes to the RF, they will very much have an official schedule, nothing more, as in attending dinners, concerts, audiences, maybe a few hospital, museum openings, but nothing serious. Joachim has his farm and Marie will just be borred, which is why I also think Marie will be birthing babies to keep herself occupied. My guess is three babies for the couple, and then they'll obviously stop, coz Joe already has Niko and Felix.

Actually I think Joachim and Marie will continue to do overseas engagements. Joachim has always done this and I don't see why this will stop. He's capable of doing those type of engagements, but his brother on the other hand.... I think Marie will do some engagements while pregnant, but mostly with Joachim and I think when they leave the hospital with the baby, she'll be able to express her joy in Danish to the media.

I also agree that Marie has been keeping a very low profile, as per the request of DRF ....... Afterall, they can only have ONE STAR (if they want any peace in the family), and that must be the ICON. Joachim has been doing overseas assignments for a number of years so I would imagine that will continue with Marie "assisting" him, and her gift with languages will come in handy................so far Marie has been to Berlin & Russia with Joachim, and Morocco by herself. I would rather she really think before taking on various patronages and when she does I do hope she will really work hard at it (but then again Mary has staked out the majority, with Alex still keeping her dozen or so, so Marie will need to choose from the leftovers that the ICON doesn't want.)
I just hope that we will get some news on what Joachim & Marie are doing, although in the past Joachim didn't get much "positive" coverage on the duties he does............... The media does love to report all the FLUFF the Icon does..............so I'll give Mary the new title of the FLUFF ICON.

Marie's most important role is to stay married to Joachim and not fall in love with any enticing young man.

Alex was handed a 'job' of a crown princess when she landed in Denmark. Now Denmark already has a CPss, thus Marie has a very minor role as the wife of the second son. Nobody seems to care what Claire (also wife of the second son) does in Belgium.

Agreed And, Marie has probably already seen enough of her to know that it would be unwise to step on Mary's less than dainty toes.

There is another side to this. Marie has never had much of a strong working attitude, she was glad to let dad/stepdad pay the bills for her. Why should she start working now?? She has her prince, her castle and her little niche in society. Me thinks she's pretty content with herself. As for the patronages: isn't The Danish Society for Little White Fluffy Dogs looking for a patron? Good one for her to start, she has "hands on" experience....
