LOL, that sounds as if you are not ruling out the possibility that Felix might eventually wear the tiara himself. Good on you.... Anyways, now I have that image in my head of Martin wearing the tiara around the house and singing:" It's raining men halleluja...." [/quote] Is that image a bit like what Marlyn Monroe said to the reporter...Oh yes...I had the radio on... G

Naaaaaaaaah, Alex won't do that. I still think she is a classy lady, better than those two brunette barbies who are playing princess now. And indeed, the tiara isn't lost for the DRF, it will probably be worn by the future mrs. Nikolai and/or Felix.
But then their children will marry and probably inherit the tiara etc etc I don't think they will give the tiara back eventually? So I think the tiara is lost for the DRF in any case

Women who marry in to RFs should be given newly commissioned tiaras as gifts (they don't even have to have genuine gemstones). Better yet, she should have to buy her own tiara. Cartier makes very nice ones in a variety of styles and price ranges. The cost could be deducted over time from the annual appenage. She could borrow jewels with royal or historical provenance on very special occassions and then they go right back into the vault before the clock strikes midnight. This way if she decides to split, generations of family heirlooms and history aren't being lost.

Most often this is exactly whats happening. With the exception of the Alexandrine Tiara, that does have some historical value, few pieces that go to the brides and out of the family are of any importance. At least not lately. In earlier times such jewels regularly changed places due to wedding contracts etc. (think of russian jewels all over Europe) Queen Mary made this state fund, bequesting most of her valuables to the "crown" (not sure if this is the correct term and it should not to be mistaken with the crown jewels). For ex the "girls of Great Britain" tiara cannot be given away for good or bequested by QEII to for ex Eugenie. Of course most royals have several nice pieces that I would most likely give my left hand and right eye for, that will be passed on to children and grandchildren. However those pieces have little or no historical, only sentimental importance. NOw you could of course argue that most of the "important" pieces have started out as "unimportant" as well. However I would very much doubt that there is enough road ahead to make a tiara that Mary had herself commissioned into an important piece of time. Anyway, look at the Netherlands: Maxima dives deep into the treasure chest, but "her own" jewellery, that she can and will pass on to her younger daughters consist of the (very costly) pieces that her hubby gives her for stellar performance. Same with Britain, QEII is even more stringy than Grandmom Mary, hardly anything gets loaned out.

That's not a bad idea theoretically, epsecially with the less important royals like Marie. However the CPs should still be given important family pieces imo, if only because of the fact that they will potentially be Queen one day.

Seeing the lost of this pieces I must say that I kind of like the Dutch way of handle this. Sure Max can inherit all her BIG and HUGE earings and other pieces to her daughters, but the "real" expensive jewellery with the historical valuation stay within the family, because they are part of a foundation and so the tiaras, necklaces, brooches ... cannot be sell. And nobody can take a tiara away because of a divorce. But they also don't buy such things like tiaras anymore. If I look a Mary's one, it is good that they don't do it

we need some visuals: Alex vs marie's vs Moshy's tiara then we'll see who was initially the favourite! i still think that Marge was really taken by Alex and thought she could bring class to the DRF which she did and now that she's filed for divorce she is pissed off and wants to play favourites.. but with who? moshy who she doesn't really like i believe and Marie who is a media whore, well was..hmm

Maybe Marge was really smitten with Alex, maybe however she never really contemplated a divorce? I think that Marge is from the old cut: once married you are in it forever if you are royal, and the idea that her sons could think otherwise and eventually divorce never dawned on her... So of course there was no risk in given Alex a family heirloom.... With Mary she was wiser, they bought a tiara, so that no family heirloom would be missed should they seperate. With Marie Marge was wisest: simply lend her a tiara for occasions that call for the big baloolah.

But that leaves the question why she BOUGHT Mary such a horrible little spiky thing and LEND Marie the most lovely tiara that is in the Royal vaults?? Does she have cash problems or does she like Marie a whooooole lot better than Mary??

Neither I assume. She had to pay for Marys tiara and since those are not cheap aquamarines (I am kidding as thoe aren't cheap either) it was even though puny in comparison to the state jewels most likely quite costly. Marie however got...zero zilch only the permission to wear some of the pieces at special occasion. (which considering Marys icy glare, Marie should use as often as she can as I imagine Queen consort Mary will lend her sis-in-law maybe a velvet hairband with a silk flower, but that is as far as it goes...)

Once Marge is gone, Joachim probably would inherit a few pieces of her jewels. I doubt Marie will lack a tiara to wear, but the tiare will be Joachim's, not Marie's.
