I actually thought that Mary looked her best in Athens, she had put on a bit of weight and had a tan. I love the first bit of the video of Mary enthusiastically standing up and clapping for the Australian athletes.

She was at her best in Athens: she actually looked quite pretty: her figure was nice, her face did not yet have this strange Michael Jackson appearance. I can't put my finger on it, if she had surgery or whatever, but she did something and it made her look artificial. Yet back in Athens the transformation from bigboned, pigeyed plain-jane to "deer in the headlight" with kabuki and more regality than QEII was in its babyshoes and therefore IMO at the best stage. Plus she looked thrilled and excited with the attention, having passed the stage of "giddy with delight" and not yet arrived at "I am the Icon - hear me roar" point. And another very important aspect probably is that back in Athens Marge was probably quite pleased with her new daughter-in-law. And Freddles was prolly able to make it through several hours or even days without heavy medication. He was prolly still able to visit her "chambres" at night without being heavily intoxicated, passed out or held at gunpoint.....

Never noticed that until now. Looks like she was motioning with her hands and face "Hurry up and give me the damn bouquet!" And then one second later, time for the smile.

She did exactly the same thing to her bridlesmaidens once the carriage pulled up to Fredensborg for the reception. Waited, and waited and waited for the girls in red, pink and orange to come help her get her bony arse out of the carriage. The tv cameras kept showing the queen and her sisters getting increasingly perturbed that Mary was just sitting in the carriage. Fred was just standing there waiting and wondering what was going on himself.
She has these preconceived ideas about what constitutes 'princess' behaviour with all the airs and graces and dosn't realise that truly royal people don't need that crap.
