I wouldn't doubt there is some cash payoff involved if they were to break up. And I wouldn't doubt if she is on the Berleberg payroll as the castle historian or what ever the hell she does. Money is definitely involved here bet on it.

I think I read on one of the sugarboards that Carina had some sort of job overseeing some restoration that was going on. She also found some family heirlooms in the attic or storage somewhere and started cataloging things for the family. This was a couple of years ago. Last fall I read that she was there to give tours of the castle for a Halloween event. So I guess she is probably on the payroll and maybe that's how she is able to stay in Germany. She has a "job".

I believe she is able to stay in Germany because her father is swedish and she may perhaps have a swedish passport besides her american one. She has written some children's books, as well. I don't think they were bestsellers though.

Doesn't the castle go to one of Ol'Richard's cousins then??
Yes, it will, Dutchess. Gustav and Elvire broke-up due to the intense wrangling their families were going through with the pre-nup that Richard wanted written up. Elvire would have been left with a very small amount of money to live on and Elvire's father felt that it would be unfair to her as she would have been at that point the mother of Gustav's children. Richard was trying to protect any monetary assets the family would have left as marrying Elvire would have cut Gustav off from his grandfather's will. So they just simply parted ways. Gustav was willing to marry Elvire at the risk of being cut off. Now he wants to marry Carina but yet keep his position as the inheritor of his grandfather's possessions. Gustav is claiming the will as being prejudiced and yes, it is. But you can't expect to overturn the legal will of what was essentially a private citizen and Gustav's grandfather was no longer a public figure as Germany ceased to be a monarchy. So he is wading in some murky legal waters trying to get the courts to do it.

If the will contains the word "Aryan" I think that the otherwise incontestable will could be challenged. Since the will is based upon Nazi anti-miscegenation laws that are now illegal in Germany, a case could be made for striking down that part of will. For example, let's say a slave owner made a will in the US in 1850 granting a plantation to his grandson as long as the grandson continued to own slaves. In 1866, the clause of the will dealing with slaves would have to be disregarded because it contradicted the 13th amendment.

[/quote] I ain't no lawyer, no have legal mind like you do Summer...but how can what was written in a time when these 'cultrual' perceptions were accepted as the norms, and held up to be the 'truth' be challenged when they continue to be represented in someone's own will? does the court have to over turn Granpa's own perceptions because they are now 'wrong'...for his heirs to do the 'correct' thing today? sorry. I am little confused at what Gustav aim his legal attack on...and want to learn... G

Even if they get the Aryan part removed from the will, Carina still isn't of noble birth and coming from a family that has been nobility for at least 4 generations. Even if Daisy would elevate her into nobility (I don't know if that's even possible), it still wouldn't do. Gustav only inherits the whole kit and kaboodle if he marries a western european, non catholic princess or noble woman.

Some people really do not care if they marry or not. We have an older friend who have been living together for over 40-years with no intention of getting married...............why I don't know, and its not my business to ask ..........................although this Couple is the first to take the high moral road when talking about others............go figure ?

If he inherits according to the terms of his grandfather's will when his father dies, could he then marry Carina without forfeiting his inheritance?

The problem apparently isn't his father, since Mister Carina is already the lord of the stables (Yiha!!). So he has already inherited, but he can still lose everything. I was actually wondering how long such a will is in effect? Didn't his father inherit anything? And if yes, hadn't it been in his power to write a new will as he was passing the estate on to his next heir?
