Rogge said that the ability to abstain from controversial topics would not make the prince a less effective IOC member as he has ‘many personal skills and [freddles] is unquestionably someone that will be listened to in Denmark [on the issue of sport]’.

ummmm, Mr. Rogge is making a huge assumption here: the Danes may listen but if they can't understand what the bumbling, blubbering, pathetic dumbling prince is saying...what is the point!!  Shocked

Look at how he bungled his thoughts on China during one of his interviews. I think he will be elected and the IOC told him to keep his mouth shut on offering political opinions moving forward and he will be admitted.  That works out best for him since he can barely string a coherent sentence together.

Of course he will be elected to the IOC.  This is something to keep him busy - something to make him shine in the eyes of Danes.  Time to make him look serious, get him on the world stage and to show that his life isn't all about sailing.  The stage is set, the meeting is in Copenhagen and I think it would be a huge slap in the face to reject the CP at a meeting in his country.  This is the type of job royalty loves - not much legitimate work, a lot of travelling and it 'looks' important but it's not.  The IOC is just a bunch of crooked politicans, anyways.

an article on JP
Just a little of it-the interesting bits.
What will CP Fred do at the IOC?
What will Crown Prince Frederik actually do as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)?

Is it what sports professor Hans Bonde thinks; primarily to bring a little glitter and glamor of the Olympic movement?

Or can he live up to IOC president Jacques Rogges confidence and make a real contribution in the voluminous issues?

Benefit?
Sport Professor Hans Bonde from Copenhagen University is doubtful about Crown Prince Frederik's real benefit to sport, when he founded the royal house's duty to seek(serve?) without political messages ,will often be forced to refrain from commenting on fire hot topics.

'The very fact pointing in the direction of course, that his role is glitter and glamor to shed some royal luster on the IOC, so it can be lifted up into a higher sphere. I understand why the IOC want royals within the company. IOC would like to sell itself as a semi-religious event which is above the political and economic level, " believes Hans Bonde.

' (with)The same appeal the royal house, the royal games can just make the IOC a more aesthetic, ritual phenomenon than an everyday political, economic phenomenon that is muddied in power struggles and prestige. It is difficult for me to see what the royal house plans to get out of it.

Thanks for the article Jazzy.

I think the Professor is bang on the money here, Freds role is going to be purely superficial- I question how much "glamour" he is going to bring to the table.

It will be interesting to see what sort of activities he undertakes.

Thanks for sharing Jazzy.

I'm glad articles like are appearing.  It is such a totally ridiculous notion that a no-qualification, bumbling idiot will be appointed to a post only because he is the Royal Heir.  There are more qualified persons appropriate for the job and will actually "work" and contribute to the betterment of the IOC.

I was just thinking about how he said that now China is some human rights leader. Oh, brother! Crap

He will get elected. He will embarass Denmark. He will not bring the games to Copenhagen. Mary will enjoy the sluuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrpppp fest of it all! Fred will enjoy the open bars at parties across the world.

I think the 'sporty' moniker came about during the days when Frederik's piece was in her mouth ...

Didn't Derf date a gal named Madeleine Bonde? If the good professor is any relation, maybe this editorial is retaliatory?

Gretafix, I assume that IOC's self impotance makes them want to market themselves as more than an economic and political org having in mind the initial Olympic values, which they seem to have forgotten in their political & economic power games. Many people see thru this , so they try to give a pic of semi- religious etc. At least that's my understanding of what the reporter wrote.

Just a few minutes ago on DR2 they aired Deadline. The debate was between BT's editor who interviewed Freddles and Politiken's sports journalist  Lars Jørgensen who incidentaly wrote a book that was launched in Sep this year. The book is called Frederik and the Flame.
Here are excerpts from a review on the paper Information(it's quite long and an interesting read for Danish speakers):

Kronprinsens kamp
Sports journalist Lars Jørgensen's  Frederik and the flame pours petrol on the flames. Here is everything: A luscious, highly detailed review of the corruption, nepotism, old fascists, communists and general dishonesty that has plagued the International Olympic Committee in decades. Plus a wonderfully thorough review of the crown prince and his allies in power play to get him placed on the post.
Lars Jorgensen brings together details and represent them in the best journalistic manner shows a picture of a crown prince who pursues his goals with a willingness to manipulate and  streamroll, hitherto unknown, at least for this review. Lars Jorgensen's impressive insight into the sport's political nooks and corners systematically collected over many years of journalistic travels, interviews and research, becomes really interesting when it now is the future ruler, we are talking about.
**********
You get insightful glimpses  into a part of the crown prince's life, we seldom recognize. A life where the royal family's real power is used rawly and brutally to achieve  what the family members want. Where the family more hardened elements, especially Greek  uncle Constantine, who sat in the IOC for 26 years before he became an honorary member, are found to be influential advisers to the Crown Prince: It's apparently especially in Constantine that Frederick got the brute strength
 to hang on.
