Well, Canada is a country with a "monarchy" so I am wondering if the national news will cover Fred and Mary when they arrive in Vancouver? I will have to watch for that. Are they arriving today?

Barrie, I doubt Canadians would even know who Fred and Mary are! As for royals, even Charles and Camilla was met with lukewarm interest in their Canada tour last year so I would imagaine that there will only be interest if William shows up. Will's first official tour of Canada with new bride Kate - now THAT would garner tons of press coverage in Canada!

We won't care about F&M.  They aren't our Royal Family.  The representative from the BRF would get more attention.

As for Norway and the IOC, at least the King and Queen were smart enough to ensure their children were well rounded, with interests in the outside 'real' world.  Fred's only interest is sailing, so Marge had to throw some kind of bone his way.

With his interest in physical fitness Fred could have taken on childhood obesity or something like that as his cause.  I assume that would give him too much long-term work and force him to get off his arse.  With the IOC, he gets to travel to meetings and events and not do much of anything.

I doubt Fred and Mary will recieve coverage in Canada. I think we will be lucky to just see them when Denmark enters during the opening ceremony. Or I don't know....will we? We did in 2008.

Yes I remember, CBC showed them sitting in the stands as the Danish team walked in. Except Fred was talking on his cell phone and Mary was trying to see who he was talking to.

Hhmmm, I don't know, I wouldn't quite consider talking to angels an "interest in the outside 'real' world": more perhaps: an interest outside the real world and with that they fit right into the real royal world...

The world TV feed has the seating chart so it knows where all the dignataries are sitting during the opening ceremonies. So, we should see all the polical leaders and royals when their teams/countries enter.

I think it's quite likely we will see them, albeit rather briefly. As someone said, they were shown during the Bejing 2008 summer olympics (Frederik was playing on his phone, wasn't Mary adjusting her bra?) and we also saw them during the athletes parade in Athens 2004 (Mary waving and Frederik clapping). Neither of them were there for the opening ceremony of the 2006 winter olympics in Turin.

How come they didn't go in 2006? Usually they never skip an oppotunity to leave the country.

Well it was not exotic enough for them to go there. Turin is still Europe.  Thinking But they were in Northern Germany in February 2006! So they took at least the opportunity to leave the country...

Denmark hardly had any athletes in turin, only a curling team if I remember correctly, Frederik went and saw some curling matches, there were pictures of him and Haakon, both had their wifes at home who had smal children (Sverre born in Desember and Christian in October?)

Yeah, Frederik was there for two days (but a few days after the opening ceremony) and then went to Hamburg the next day.

An incredibly wise decision, full of forethought and integrity for the royal house. And a bit of a discreet strike at cousin Daisy and widdle Fweddles! I think they - along with Morey Antoinette - have managed to just about alienate every royal cousin out there! Will be interesting to see any Haakon/Derf interactions in BC!
