I say, Alex works quiet a bit for not being a princess anymore....and a bit aside from the DRF. If were counting by number of patronge then Mary must be the busiest princess in Europe The question is how many functions Alex actually carries? Don't know Hanzo - why don't you tell us? Even if Alex only carried ONE engagement in the last year (the one that was shown in the recent press reports), it still indicates that your statement, "Alex does not work at all now" is wrong. oh please are you trying to pick another fight

I think they both are lazy and should give so much more I do think there is a burden (not high in my book but still) that goes with the luxury that MM is receiving as a representative and thorough the exposure of her family whether she likes It or not and by raising the heiress to the throne. the idea beyond the privileged life of royals is just that. IMO Alex doesn't live under the same burden and her exposure these days is mainly by choice especially when she's taking her kids to events or IMO calling the paps to her boys school. plus her kids might be the queen's grandchildren yet they are minor and would be more minor as they grow up just like their mom who IMO benefited more from being the only princess in DK than from "giving so much to the country" all in all she is getting a lot that she doesn't deserves not from her past as a princess (and that was years ago) and more so not from her present still both are LAZY While I agree that they can both do more work, I think that Mette should be doing substantially more because of her position and the income she and Haakon receives. As for Alex giving so much to the country during her 10 years as princess - that has been documented by her patronages, the public/media and the Queen herself. That Countess title was largely created as a thank you for representing the DRF so well. She really did an explemplary job and no one could or should take that away from her. During her time as princess, not a single time has anyone accused Alex of being lazy (as they sometimes do with Mary and Marie now) The papers in DK don't accuse Mary or Marie as lazy either only our board so that isn't a proof that Alex worked a lot and knowing the DRF I'm guessing she did the minimal possible as the DRF always do the fact she did that while looking interested in her cause does not change that. her patronage aren't objective either every patronage will be happy to any exposure and these days they are thankful for Mary's help when talking to the media... Marge would NEVER say anything negative on the DRF members (plus who knows what Alex have on this family )so all in all: a. I don't think she was as fantastic as some claims she was. b.I also find It irrelevant to her present except the fact that now she barely works and It can only demonstrate once again that members of the DRF aren't altruistic by nature cause If she was really altruistic she would have done more these days. I haven't seen any board during the time that Alex was princess that accused her of being lazy - unless you know of one and can direct us to that link?
And Marge has gone way beyond NOT saying negative about Alex, she and Henri both invited her to Henri's birthday party. How many people do you know invite their FORMER daughter-in-law to their family celebrations? I don't know of any. I can see the Queen inviting her grandkids Nikolai and Felix but there was no need to include Alex. Which means that there is still genuine fondness for Alex in the DRF.The fact that you haven't seen doesn't makes It any different I'm sure that you thought that she was hard working just like others find other royals hard working and just like others think they aren't and unless you have her numbers I'm going to assume she worked just like Mary after her wedding which isn't much. as for Marge and Henrik again that's your opinion mine is that the show must go on is what leading their action IMO Marge could never ever risk anything negative surrounding her family image although IMO she finds all of them far from perfect. What "show" must go on Hanzo? Alex is no longer part of the DRF! So there's no reason for the Queen and Henri to "pretend" that they are fond of Alex if they are not. The fact they invited her to his birthday celebration is obviously because they like Alex - that's just common sense.no. That's just your subjective idea just like mine

But this is an opinion board, so if you're going to state something like it's an undeniable fact, then it should be true. Otherwise, what do you expect? Of course, people will refute you. Far easier to just say, "It doesn't look like Alex works very much" and cover yourself, rather than make a concrete statement like "Alex does not work at all now". How would you know? Do you follow her around 24/7?

i know a few people who continue to invite their EX-daughter in law to family events because of their grandchildren. in one case they have no respect left for the former daughter-in law, yet they are still friendly and welcoming to her, for the sake of their grandchild.
so to me alex being invited by marge to the one or other celebration doesn't mean anything but keeping up appearances.

and I know people who genuinely like former in-laws and keep in touch, so it could be that, too.

Alex topped the list of the most number of activities among the members of the DRF during some of the years (I know the whole family never seemed to work that much to begin with ). If she were a Crown Princess with aging in-laws, people might not blink, since she was only the 2nd son's wife, she and Jokke only received a fraction of the amount Fred and Mary are getting now from the state, she became more hard working perception wise.

Thanks dkaren I have no doubt that Alex was better at being a princess than Marie or Mary yet she lived a luxury life back then, a princess life . There's no doubt about It. The fact that she got less money than Mary doesn't matter to me when discussing Alex and It doesn't makes her in anyway hard working in my view where there is no such thing with royals especially with Danish royals that however you look at them they are one of the laziest royal families in Europe I think that Mary considered that most "hard working" DRF member today so there you go

The less money a royal receives from the state, the less work I expect her to do. The junior members of the DRF or any royal family should not have to work as hard (like Alex) than the more senior royals (eg. CP Mary or CP Mette) since they receive less allowance. So if Mary is now considered one of the hardest working members of the DRF now - then I say, she should be. There was no need for Princess Alex (when she was married to the Queen's second son - a junior royal) have to be so hard working and yet she was - IMO, that's admirable.

RO, agree. Alex did more than what she was obliged to do, thus people gave her more credits, that's very normal.
