The countess looked more and more stiff in Mary's company, i think she left because she couldn't stand Mary's narcissism and pretence. 

Yes, but then again. The countess is classy and Mary is a tart. Two people from two different worlds. I'm surprised the countess stayed for two years. And the ladies she has now...they are only licking boots. Who will teaches Mary good manners now ?

No I agree with other RD readers, let Joachim and Marie take over the throne. And let Chip and Dale retire. They can move to Hollywood. With all the experiences they have in acting Im sure they will get roles in a movie.

If Mares did not learn good manners despite having a good teacher for 2 years, doesn't that make her rather hopeless? Marie is far more royal than Mares, and she has not had this kind of help for so long. At least those girls give Mares some confidence, not sure whether that's a good thing though 
The fact that the countess left is rather interesting. As Machiavelli said, a king without intelligence will be unable to choose good advisors, or a bad king can never have a good advisor

It almost looks like Mary sucked the life out of Countess Victoria Bernstorff-Gyldensteen.

The Countess is so elegant. I just love this picture of her - talking about growing old with grace and style.  The jacket,, dress, earrings, make-up, hairstyle, even her figure - everything is just spectacular!

OMG, Holly, that letter was not addressed to me  - I just found that doc after I scoured the internet for pics re Marie's visit at the university.

Mares looks like she has aged 15 years in the 5 or 6 years since this photo was taken - something about being CP (or maybe it's her marriage?  ) just isn't agreeing with her.

Oh yes! I totally agree with you, she used to look so much more juvenile and lately her skin looks so wrinkled and she is wearing this old lady-like hair do's.

Anyway... I'm very glad I ran into this topic because the other day I saw in one of the sugarboards one with a discussion about if LIW got paid or not. Common sense, tells me they should recieve some sort of retribution and they appeared listed as staff in the royal sited. Apparently it was the thought of some people there: in this crazy and absurd modern era of ours, one gets paid when you do a job. But then the hadcore sugar boarders exploded (I ...cowardly didn't dare to post) that LIW did it just for the honor and pleasure of the princesses company and because it was a tradition and blah, blah blah.

I reckon that might be truth in 1500, but I resist to believe it remains truth, that actually LIWs are paid for being dragged behind a princess everyday. Does any of you have info on this??
