Or it's the other way around Ms. Sunshine Well, she was already three months pregnant when they announced the pregnancy, and they became engaged on Christmas Day (according to what I heard) which would mean she was roughly two months along then... BUT, I do think that this engagement was inevitable at around this point anyway. They've been together fairly long, and she's getting up in age a bit. I don't mind the pregnancy before the religious wedding. For how much I appreciate Nathalie's down-to-earth-ness in mucking her own stables from time to time, and not being hugely on the royal scene, it also means that the baby before the religious wedding is not as big a PR deal as it would be for, say, Victoria and Daniel.

My point was this is hardly unusual for people their age. At a certain time I'm sure they knew that they would stay together so the whole "engagement and wedding thing" is really something that can come at any time, once they've decided to be together. I hardly doubt this was a whoops-baby resulting in a shotgun engagement and wedding, in the sense that they wouldn't have gotten engaged or married if she wasn't pregnant.

ITA Maria. They were living together for awhile before she got pregnant IMRIC. I'm sure it was pretty much known to everyone that they were going to get married one day. I can't see Benedikte and Richard being okay with their children allowing just anyone to move into Berleberg with them. They seem fairly old fashioned.

i dont think she's that old.. i mean Moshy was engaged 'officially' when she was 31 in October of that year (2003?) she promptly turned 32 in Feb and got married in May, so she can't gloat too much. if anything Nathalie is ahead as she's having a baby younger than Moshy

I agree, Starlight, Nathalie isn't old. 34 is young and congratulations to the couple on the empending birth and their new family life.
I don't think Benedikte and Richard are particularly old school when it comes to the personal lives of their adult children. Live and let live, love them and keep them as close as the 'kids' can handle.
Dignity is often mistaken as having to be wrapped in virtue and Victorian ideas of purity. Dignity is actually reacting with class to all of the ways life is carried out, including the unexpected but happy news of a pregnancy between two loving people, whether they are married or not. Anglo-saxon uptightedness is fortunately not a big trait amongst continental Europeans, no matter their social class.

sure. they may have tied the knot at some point a la carina and gustav... remains that she was pregnant before the engagement and civil wedding. which makes it look like exactly like a shotgun wedding so as to avoid the humiliation of having a child born out of wedlock. that's not something that's encouraged in those circles.
the various announcements were carefully managed PR wise. first the engagement announcement. then when the pregnancy cannot be hidden anymore they admit announce that she is 6 months pregnant and got secretly discreetly married after the engagement.
i wonder how carina feels about this.

It looks that way, if one wants to see it like that, I think. To me it looks like the life of many other women her age - whether the child or that marrige comes first, is 50/50 among modern, young women in northern Europe, I think. Natalie seems to have always been living life as normal as she could - this is normal life.

My, my, things happen when you're away for a week Great for N &A. A baby...the best thing in the world, imo. But I do feel sorry for big brother and Carina. I wish they would just go ahead and do the same...testament or not!

gustav and carina could have a child out of wedlock. but i don't think that that child would not have any rights on the estate.
it could also be that they tried and it didn't work.

Read a bit in Billed bladet. Apparently they aren't married yet so that information is wrong. It sounds to me a bit like they've planned the baby so it fits with future riding competions because BB writes that the baby comes at a good time for her carrer

I always though Gustav (or Gustaf) was a nod to their Swedish background Anyway I LOVE that name. If I ever end up having another boy I think I might insist he'll be a Gustaf
