Cece, I think we can all agree that once Queen Mary is in charge soooooooooooooo many things will change, and Joachim knows full well he and his family will be the very first to get thrown under the bus....................................................... And with Mary in charge of Freddy no way will she allow the brothers to patch things up
Why "will". Who does say Mary would be still member of the court I really don't see Mary ever allowing a divorce Frex seems consigned to a life of domestic misery and Mares too in love with her position. I doubt they will ever divorce, at least not while Marge is still alive - I will be interested to see whether Fred ever does Man-up, Nut-up and do something about his relationship, by either working on making it livable for himself and his 4 sprogs or by changing the locks at Amalienborg, once Mor Dearest is no longer breathing down his neck disapprovingly.

In Norway, the only ones receiving an apanage are the King&Queen & the Crown Prince&Crown Princess. (So two apanages in total) Princess ML renounced her apanage when she started her own business - but receives money from her parents' for the times she's representing the state. Princess Astrid never received an apanage, afaik, but receives an honorary pension from the state since her 70th birthday. The NRF took steps to ensure that the royal house would be small, by not giving Sverre an HRH at the time of his birth.
Actually, that's not entirely correct. Princess Astrid did receive a state apanage until her marriage in 1961 - which sort of makes sense, because as First Lady she was basically acting in the place of a Queen and was therefore pretty important to the monarchy. However, she did lose it when she married Johan Ferner, and, up until the pension given for her birthday recently, she didn't receive a dime from the state.

Mary was extremely lucky in the beginning when perfect princess Alex left the scene. Mary knew she could do the bare minimum of "work" and get away with. Now enter Marie, who over time appears relaxed with her job and is demonstrating that she is trying hard to learn to speak Danish. Does anyone else remember early on Mary said she was having difficulty learning Danish because the Danes would only speak to her in English? Are these the same Danes who speak to Marie? Mary is running scared.

Great post, Amagerpigen. I think it would be best if Nikolai, Felix and Henrik were all rasied with the emphasis being on the pursuit of their own careers.
IMO, Isabella and her twin siblings should be added to that list as well. Their "royal duties" are likely to be far less than brother Christian's so their parents should prepare them to have a career outside of the DRF. I've always thought that with the exception of Princes Andrew(retired far too early IMO), Joachim and the Dutch royals, the current generation of 30-40 year old royals have been in an awkward position. Princes Edward, Carl-Phillip, Laurent and Princesses Madeline and Astrid have not had any long lasting careers except for the occasional royal duty. Some appear to be perpetual students. I don't know if that was because they were caught between a conflicting ideas of an older traditions and the realities of downsizing royal appendages or were they simply uninterested in working?

I think it would be beneficial for more royal parents to do what Harald and Sonja did with ML - insist that she got a degree of some sort. I doubt whether she could've sustained a career as a physical therapist, but there was at least a degree as a foundation. (That she went a bit strange after meeting Ari is something that couldn't be predicted.) similar with M&H and Joachim's agricultural education.
The age of marrying off Princesses for political gain is gone. Nowadays they should be able to stand on their own two feet and usually end up married to commoners.

Bunte is very weird.. Marie, the all-time second one! The best part: Marie wants to be like Mary! But I love the comments on Bunte Royal. Most of the people there are smart. http://www.bunte.de/royal...ige-zweite_aid_19740.html

To me Princess Marie looks pleasant and unthreatening enough, but I think she’s got a potentiality not to be underestimated

urmel sternchen 1 day ago
That is such a stupid article, really without basis. There is not a spark of research, or truth to it. Gradually I think BUNTE is really becoming stupid too!

BUNTE writes: "Mary expects twins by her husband". How does the BUNTE know that? Was BUNTE there? The fact is that Mary is expectig twins. Nothing more. BUNTE should never forget: Queen Mary Margaret has, I believe it was during or after pregnancy with Isabella required to sign a marriage-amending treaty, which it in case of divorce would not give her a single penny for her maintenance, let alone the children, no severance, no homes, no nothing! Why? Mary has no other choice, to produce as many children as possible to strengthen her troubled position in the royal family. What Mary and Marie concerns: Marie has a very natural charm and warmth in her eyes, Mary is dressd alwasy very chicly, but she always has her nose a little too far up in the air, her charisma is that of a cold opportunist. And once you look at Prince Frederick. Does he look happy? Not even after the announcement of the twin pregnancy of his lovely wife, he could find a way to smile happily, while Mary played happy, but her eyes are cold. Marie needs nothing more to do than to just be there. The Danes will appreciate her warmth slowly but surely. Marie is the hit in the Danish royal family, not Mary.

Mary looks so Annette Benning in "American Beauty" with that fake smile hiding a life of quiet rage and desperation Also, it seems like she is finally starting to get chubsters in the face, so hopefully she is gaining. yeah she's getting bigger and still those rings fit...sorry that bit reallllly bugs me. from day one I thought she seemed a bit of a *itch and then I kept forcing myself to believe she's just "shy" and so she appears that way.... HA! no, she played it, Fred bought it, and now he is stuck with it. she made one comment about her barely there belly saying, "i'm one of the fortunate" barfffffffffffffffff! I really hope Marie is able to get the leg up and take over as much as she can

"i'm one of the fortunate" That just proves Mary's extreme vanity and high value placement on superficial appearances over incubating new life and final transformation into a family woman. She's already crossed that tiny, fleeting threshold to care about stretch marks. And most women want to show! Growing your family with more healthy children is the main thing. For someone who plays peek-a-boo on the beach with the press and a bathrobe and who treats her older two children like such a nuisance (to the degree that she nearly starved the first one in utero), she sure has some big ones to say such things. She's a narcissist in extremis!

Ouch! Truth lighting! Wouldn't want to be the gaffer at this theatre! He is on his way to the Amalienborg dungeon for 69 lashings from the presque-zizi of Crown Princess Mary for highlighting her ordinariness! She looks like a tubby, droopy, suburban mum overdressed in cheap satin and flat-ironed 'fancy dress' hair (courtesy her neighbour's daughter) to receive an award for volunteer of the year at a phone bank for the food pantry before the organisers realised that she was actually siphoning off funds to her sister's ALERKA fund.
