She has every right to be loved by her people. She was denied so much by the stupid regulations. Poor her. Actually, what is the big difference between her and her life at the side of her man/lover/prince and that of Waity Katie? Both seem(ed) content to spend their lives at the sidelines. Never really and truely accepted and treated accordingly by the families of their princes, (Lilian was officially Bertils housekeeper), a doormat to the public. HHm , well for some reason, I pity Lillian and consider her's a tragic love story with a semi-happy ending. While I can't stand Kate.

I don't like Lillian story as I don't like Carina's, if they were so loved by their respective partners they should marry them not wait for a miracle, I don't see the love story in this two cases.

Well... I don't know very much about this subject but Princess Lilian accepted the situation because it was a state problem not money problem . If Prince Bertil married Lilian , all the family would suffer and Sweden was in trouble . I'll be happy if someone can tell us more than we know. So... my point is ...in this case it was not about MONEY like Teef's case and they demonstrated their real love in many years of life togheter and support for King C-G and Queen Silvia and she had a special bond with their children. About Kate we have to wait and see .... In my opinion in this case I don't concern the situation in black and whait. There are a lot of grey shades. But in the end all that matters is she had a life with people she loved and she never given up when the things dindn't go well.

sweden would not have been in trouble. just the monarchy...
besides bertil's brothers all chose to marry commoners and therefore lost their right to the throne. he could have chosen to do the same...

The problem wasn't that he was unwilling to marry, but that if he did then only king (then prince) would be the only person left in the Swedish session. So he chose not to to stay in line, the only reason he didn't lose his place after marrying her is that it was a reward for waiting to get married. Or that's how its reported. You can't compare that to Waity because there is nothing stopping her for getting a job is her self. The only similarities is that Lillian didnt' work either, but Lillian is from a different generation. Now a days the is on reason why a college educated, and childless women should not have a job. And Carina, that's just about money or rather greed, because even if he does get cut out, he still wont be poor.

of course he was unwilling to marry. he didn't because he much more preferred to stay in line to the throne rather than losing it like his brothers to marry a commoner (and divorced) showgirl.
he preferred to keep his options open so that, had he become king, he could marry somebody "suitable" to provide a legitimate heir. lillian would either have been kicked out or remained the hidden mistress forever.
after CG got married to a commoner, he could marry a commoner without loosing his place in line.

This is a way to see how the things happened. The other way : maybe he supported and waited for his nephew C-G to secure his position like a King of Sweden and after that he folowed his hart and married lilian. I don't know when I'll have time maybe I'll be doing some research about this topic.

There is always two sides of a coin: the rose coloured and the pewter side
On the rose coloured we have a madly in love couple, he a Prince, second in line to a rather lonely throne, she a commoner that wasn't allowed to marry into this monarchic family. Had he married her, he would have lost his place in the succession, leaving the swedish monarchy hanging on a sole thread named Carl Gustav. (The ridiculous rules btw made it possible for a king to marry a commoner, since he can't lose his place in the succession, he is already on top...) Because they choose duty above their personal happiness, it is oh so tragic. Years and continuing devotion later, the king now has his own breed to follow the succession, Bertil is no longer necessary and can marry. From then on she is considered more than his housekeeper by his family. CG and his sisters (were they not eligible for the throne?) once said, that as children, they never had an inkling, never were told about Lilian. So she wasn't the lovely "Aunt Lilli" to the family, she was indeed hidden and ignored well.
The pewter coloured side mentions the ignore above, and seriously asks why a woman would stick to a man, accepting this horrid treatment, the fact she would never have children on her own (a very very big issue for her and him, apparently since I remember him mentioning this at their wedding) and probably experience a lot of arrogant and patronising behaviour by the so-called elite. Where was her pride?
And you see, there I have answered my own question: While Kate or her likes might occassionally have to swallow a tiny bit of pride (though I guess they don't have that), they get to enjoy almost all other perks: limelight and admiration by the press, great clothes to party with, no sorrows or financial concerns, a jetsetting lifestye mingling with the royals and the celebs. If they get to marry the price (oops prince) sometime, great, if not, well was worth the while. Lillian, could have a great life without Bertil: she was very pretty, apparently quite smart and lovely to talk to, she could have married a very nice well off guy and have a sufficiently satisfying life. But she apparently loved her man more than anything else and accepted all this hardship to only be with him. So romantic... Poor her she simply lived in the wrong generation....
