It looks like maybe she is expanding more in her upper belly right now than her lower.

She looks quite ill to me.  I think she has lost weight.

Mary who?

IMO Mary is incredibly vain.

She isn't naturally the size she is. She is big-boned  like her sister Jane and she clearly works her arse off (literally!) to look the way she does.

For somebody who works that hard on their weight pregnancy must be pretty traumatic. Especially when last time with Izzy she put on quite a bit of weight, especially in the face, which is no bad thing in her case.

IMO she's doing everything she can to keep as much weight off a possible in addition to wearing clothes that don't make her look pregnant. I think that's incredibly sad. I haven't had kids myself but IMO it's nothing to be ashamed of and the way Mary is acting/dressing seems to be sending out the message that there is something to "hide".

Although she might just be trying to get a few more column inches out of the press, "Where's the Bump" etc?

I agree, LS.  It all comes down to vanity with her.  I think she's terrified of looking 'fat' for the cameras (and for Mary that's anything other than stick thin) no matter what the cause of the weight gain - babies included.

Those recommendations are very generic, a lot also depends on the mother's history, her babies' history (i.e. are they always yellow?  yes, I am looking at you, Mary!), the mother's physical build, diet and activity level.

My question is: is Mary trying to miscarry or give birth several weeks prematurely? Either would gain her sympathy points and keep the waistline easier to maintain. At least on a subconscious level, she seems so much more concerned about "getting fat" than gaining the required weight to nourish the babies.

thrilla, your Jill Michaels gets points for honesty. There is no rule that all women must have babies, and indeed there is a small movement of people who want to be parents but only via adoption of children who are already here and need loving homes.

Well, let's face it, Mary has hardly ever seemed maternal with her babies.  The shots are always of her annoyed or showing them off like puppets, or carrying them off to the side so she can wave to her heart's content.  Even the posed shots are more about Mary than the babies.  Why on earth would she be happy to get fat again and even more so with twins?

I could understand wanting to hide a pregnancy in the first trimester or before you make an announcement, but this is ridiculous.  Wouldn't looking pregnant get her more attention?  Especially if she's wants to miscarry.....

I think she is playing this "cat and mouse" game with the media:
Of course she is this incredibly beautiful and princessy- woman, more fairy-tale figure than real life human: waif like like a fairy, other-worldly and yet cutting edge modern.
And of course you see celebs and those that fill the mags wowing us with their strict dicipline while pregnant: " Ya know, i eat very healthy vegetarian meals my asian chef prepares for me and I do yoga and aishynooga and I feel wonderful" and about twenty minutes after their scheduled c-sec (Such a wonderful experience, all my family was there and we had candles and music) they work the runway for Victoria's secret (Oh the baby is backstage, he is so good, sleeps everywhere and never cries)
So the perfect mother weighs only babies weight plus 2 liters of extra blood (can't be helped) at delivery time, bounces back faster than the Ob/GYN from his night shift, the baby is perfectly healthy and after a couple of years of comatoese sleep he is enrolled in sinology for infants classes and preparation courses for "future leaders".
All the while the mother looks like a perfectly starved 14 year old.
The window for looking like Demi Moore and Claudia Schiffer posing with their babybumps is about 2 days. And that bump can't look big or fat and heavens forbit if it is visible or even detectable from the back side...
Anyway, I have to admit that any mother that fails to wear 5" Manolos on her way to the delivery room is completely out of question. (What can be said about those that actually wear Birkenstocks or only socks and their hubbies clothes is not suitable for elite conversation... Blush)

I think the idea of carrying twins has her freaked out.  I asked my co-worker today (who has had twins) how much weight she gained and she said it was about 50 pounds and that was what her doctor (at that time in the 80's) recommended for her since she was a little on the skinny side.

I found a website about pregnancy weight gain when carrying multiples.  Looks very interesting.

http://www.americanpregna...multiples/weightgain.html

Itīs curious, but I have another article (in Spanish) where they say something different (WHO data):

http://www.nosotros2.com/...o-en-un-embarazo-multiple

http://foro.enfemenino.co...-durante-el-embarazo.html

I resume, ideal weightgain:

With one baby, 9-11 kg (more than 14 kg implies risk for the mother). They say, the baby takes all what it needs and not more, so if mama eats three hamburguer, the mother gets fat but not necesarly the baby.

First quarter, the mother should gain one Kg; second quarter, 3 Kg (one per month), third quarter, 6 kg (2 Kg per month).

With twins, : 15-18 kg (having twins doesnīt mean that the mother should gain twice weight).

There is too a weight gain distribution... but they say too, that there are other circunstances that may change these "ideal weight gain" and the best is to be controled by a gynaecolist.

I have no doubt that Mary is controled by more doctors and thatīs all is right with the pregnancy and her weight gain.

But of course, if you believe at conspiracy theories, one can always say that the RDH has given instructions to her gynaecolist to not control her, so that she suffers a miscarriage or that the babies come with problems to the world and so, Fred could divorce her finally... wich sincerely, I canīt believe.

If something is not right with the pregnancy, the DRH would have keep her activities calender more quiet, IMO.

About the title of the topic:

The first time I got pregnant, I couldnīt wait to buy "pregnancy clothes"... My sisterīs words: "you are exagerating... you have not yet a belly at all!". At the end of the pregnancy, I had enough with these wide clothes...

With the second pregnancy, I wore "normal" clothes so long I could (till my 5 month). My friend did it till her 7 and 1/2 month, she has not showed at all before...

Women and pregnancies are very different and the only important thing is that the baby comes to world healthy and without problems.

I find it quite worrying that she is definately trying to make herself look not pregnant most of the time.......I mean what does that say about her mental state of mind ?   I cant speak for everyone here but I know when I was pregnant with my son, I loved looking pregnant and could not wait to show off my bump...

Absolutely putti, it was one of the first things you looked forward to doing because it's the only real sign that you have that you are expecting a baby. For the people who don't know you personally, and don't know that you are pregnant, here's the wonderful physical proof that you are.  And I found it amazing how many people treated you kinder and gentler.

Well in that case Mary should definitely try that.
