You know, this is one of the things that irk me about our royal family... The day is in honour of Danish soldiers who have served their country abroad. If a royal family only had one task, it would be showing up at such an event. And who shows up? Marie and Joachim. And all honour to them for that, but where the Hell were the rest of the family?! Mary was (believe it or not) the only one who had an engagement elsewhere, none of the others were doing anything! I find that so offensive in so many ways...
And on the topic of soldiers, I cannot for the life of me understand why the royal family doesn't do what the minister of defense does, that is call the families of soldiers who have died serving their country to offer their condolences and ask if their presence is wanted at the funeral. It would be such an obvious and kind thing to do, something that would actually matter to real people. Showing respect to those who have died serving the country which these n00bs are supposed to represent and care about. This has got to be the most useless royal family on the face of the planet.

I agree with you Luisa, this is an event, where the whole DRF should attend, most of them Crown Prince, since he will be king someday and he is considered a real soldier, due to his time in special forces.

What a handsome and dashing couple, especially Joachim in his uniform, mingling with injured soldiers at that! Can you imagine More-y and Derf getting within a bargepole of icky, injured soldiers!? No wonder the gracious and sanguine Joachim and Marie got the job! Joachim is so king-like! If only a transfer of power were underway!

Was Frederik nursing a hangover again? Where was he? Although I must admit Joachim and Marie are looking great. I guess it's better for them to come to these events, they give good representation. The last time I saw Frederik attend a military event was when he was subbing for his mum (not QE II ) and he looked like he spent the night drinking and hadn't had any sleep. He looked bored and not at all like a Crown Prince.

Thanks guys! It's so nice to have a place to go to when I need to rant I agree with you 100% Louisa. The entire royal family should have been there. There's really no excuse for the queen and CP not to have been present.

If you don't want to be king, then do the right thing and step down. Otherwise, grow up and show some respect to your country for once".

Louisa The Danish family should take example of their British cousins, who never shirk honoring veterans. It shows them to be a group of lazy posers, first to spend tax payer money last to step up to the duty plate. The fact that J and M represented the family shows their sense of duty. but hey WHERE'S FRED, WHERE'S FRED,FRED-DIE, Mama's good boyHEY YOU FUTURE KING, get out of bed and do something. Life must be a sham in the palaces.

excellent post Louisa and one for HP for all the photos ...and I cannot resist ...wots wrong with a hat pin for MIII's pil-box hat: it'll look a whole lot neater than a lastic on her head, like those straw-hats Huckeleberry Finn had to wear with elastic under his chin G

ANDREW DENTON: Yes. What did... When you first met, what did you see in each other? CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK: What did we see in each other? We saw... Well, it's a bit hard. It's a bit blurry, in a way, because it was just after the Olympics had started and it was one of those evenings where...

Well said Louisa, and feel free to rant, many here as you see, agree with you. I did not realise (as an Australian) that this is what Flag Day in Denmark is all about. Now that I know, I think it is insulting of the royals not to attend - they should all be there, every one of them. We see the Belgian, Dutch, British, Spanish & other royals being respectful to their servicemen & women, why are the Danish royals less so? If the Prime Minister of Australia refused to turn up to an Anzac Day service in Australia, I think there would be a march on parlaiment house!
